Shunt Regulators
When connected in series, batteries will inherently become unbalanced. During charging, and discharging, it is common for some cells to become overcharged while others lag behind. This leads to overall poor performance and premature battery failure.
Our shunt regulators dissipate excess current away from the batteries that become fully charged first, while allowing lagging batteries to accept the current offered until they reach full charge. The reduced overcharging of cells reduces water usage in wet cell batteries and is a must for gel or AGM batteries with critical voltage limits.
LED's indicate batteries that have reached full charge and that are in dissipation mode. Voltage limit potentiometers for each battery can be set by the operator. For example, if you are charging a series string of AGM batteries, you may want to adjust the voltage limit to 2.45 volts per cell, or 14.7 volts for a 12 volt battery. For wet cells you may want to limit the string to 15.5 volts per battery.
