How to upgrade you ZAP Xebra to 84 volts

The ZAP Xebra's motor does not run well under 72 volts. Because it can pull relatively hard on the stock 72 volt pack, to-the-motor voltage on a Xebra falls below 72 as soon as the accelerator is pressed. This causes poor performance, motor heating and undue stress on the pack.

GPEV pioneered the V84X, or the 84-volt Xebra upgrade. On average, an 84 volt Xebra will go 15% faster, 20% farther and run 15-20 degrees cooler then a stock 72 volt sibling because the motor is given the >72 volts it needs. When driven equal mileage, the 84 volt version will cause much less stress on the battery pack, resulting in dramatically longer battery life.

This manual outlines how an experienced mechanic would upgrade a stock ZAP Xebra to run at 84 volts. It is the same manual that comes with our upgrade kits, and now includes the addendum for the all-new Xebra Hatchback. Manual is a download in Microsoft Word format. It can also be veiwed online in our FAQ pages.
